This article examines the key problems of the system of professional development and retraining of teachers. It emphasizes the importance of developing teachers’ professional competence for improving the quality of education. The study identifies shortcomings in the current system, lack of modern approaches, insufficient methodological support, and challenges in implementing innovative technologies. Based on the findings, scientifically grounded recommendations for improving the system are proposed.
